I am 1/5 of the way there, with 18,011 words total. That’s on track for 90k! I spent most of this evening working on figuring out the rest of Acts 2 and 3, with many ideas but still a lot of scenes to sort and place.
These six are smaller subplots that either are only a small part of the story, or are the beginning of a larger plot that extends through the rest of the trilogy.
Suplot 5 – Kel Opening Up to Ivy
Kel is a stoic man who doesn’t like to open himself up to people. I haven’t determined why he acts this way, but there will be a reason in his backstory eventually.
Subplot 6 – Mellien vs Jerol
Mellien dislikes Jerol for being lazy, reckless, and fascinating with engineering and technology. She especially doesn’t like the fact that Ivy seems to like him.
Subplot 7 – Jerol Learning Tech from Hob
Jerol and Hob don’t get a lot of time together in scenes, but when they do I am hoping for a friendly interest in one another, as opposed to the master/apprentice relationship between Jerol and Kel.
Subplot 8 – Ivy’s Interest in Tech
Even more frustrating to Mellien than Jerol is Ivy’s interest in Hob and his tech. Tech is the antithesis of magic in her mind. This interest is dangerous and could hurt her magical ability.
Subplot 9 – Jerol and Ivy’s Romance
They both have an attraction to one another, but hold off for various reasons. This one for sure will build throughout the trilogy.
Subplot 10 – Hob Improving the Abni
In downtime, Hob will be making repairs and upgrades to the Abni, so that it’s abilities at the end of the book, and the trilogy, won’t seem a deus ex machina.
